Hello! Thanks for joining me here 🌞
You are receiving this email because:
a) you are a dear friend or family member
b) you signed up or messaged me your email
c) you are somebody I assumed would want to subscribe, but may have missed the social media invitation (please forgive me if I’ve spammed - I will not take it too personally if you unsubscribe)
Whatever our relationship, I hope the transition from 2020 to 2021 has been relatively easeful, nourishing and supportive for you..
Though I’ve sent similar emails to folks in the past, they were contextualized by updates to “Siempo Supporters” and less focused on my personal life. Now that Siempo, Inc. has dissolved (in-depth post-mortem coming soon), I feel empowered to share more comprehensive updates with y’all.
Andrew Update
Where to start.. quick look back on 2020:
Sensing it would be a dynamic year, I went in wanting to experiment with leaning into what lights me up most (brainstorming, networking, mentoring x humane tech, systems change, impact investing, personal development), which led me to working closely with One Nation Party USA and related initiatives (a leadership academy, policy research center, land-based community) in San Diego and New Mexico. Quite the ride! Retrospective coming soon.
In August I chose to take a break and tend to other important things like getting clarity on what to do with Siempo, sorting out personal finances, tending to relationships with friends and family, and feeling into my next chapter. I spent much of the fall easing back into New York, with a couple of nourishing trips to Mexico in between. So much life happened in 2020. I learned about community and resilience, integrity and responsibility, love and loss, leadership and ego, nature and Judaism, social change and more.
Looking Forward
In November I realized that what I really wanted to do was spend some time in solitude in nature. To slow down, listen, come back to myself. It feels like I’m closing an intense four year chapter marked by Siempo and Silicon Valley, spiritual journey and community living, new paradigm bla bla bla. What was that all about it? What did I learn? Who am I without that? Who do I want to be?
I’m grateful for the opportunity to participate in my friend Belinda Liu’s Hestia Winter Incubator in beautiful Mt. Shasta, CA where I’ll be joined by two other creatives on special land that I’ve spent some quality time with over the years. I’ll be writing several essays that I’ve been excited to share, and incubating an online course to complement some of the humane tech coaching and consulting I’ve begun. You can imagine me in the Mongolian Yurt shown below, scratching my beard while flipping through old journals as the fire rages inside and the snow outside. I’ll be less available virtually during this time (through at least mid-March).
Meanwhile, I’ve been getting worked by my friend Sara Wolcott’s ReMembering for Life Course, deepening my understanding of decolonization, ancestral trauma, Indigenous knowledge, eco justice. I love history and engaging with People’s History has been turning my world upside down.
New Post: Inviting Wharton’s Leadership in a Time of Transition ⎈🗣
I’ve been sitting on this letter for awhile. While I had a challenging college experience, I have been delighted to develop a rich alumni life through connecting with others who share similar ideas for how the business school institution can reach its fullest potential. I don't have the answers, but I have vision and the energy to spark conversation.
If you would like to support me in this effort, please clap the post and share with others in the b-school community who might be interested in the content. I'm also very curious to hear any reflections!
That’s all for now! I mean, there’s a whole lot more.. let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like to hear about, privately or publicly. I can imagine myself sending this newsletter out monthly-ish.
Love,
Andrew
